“OK Hope, you can do this, no really… be a big girl and push the migration button already!”
After a few heavy breathing sessions in a brown paper bag, and a lot of motivational self-talk, I made the move to change my “Personal Facebook Account” into a “Facebook Page”. Admittedly this was a big move, and I still have a little bit of the social-media-withdrawal “twitches”. However, its important I let everyone know what this means.
I had a Personal Facebook Account Page under the name “Hope Moore” with 10,000+ followers and 3,000+ friends. I was also a member of about 40+ Facebook “groups”.
When I changed my personal facebook account page into a business or “Fan Page”, Facebook did the following:
-Turned all my friends and followers into “likes”. I have NO Friends on Facebook now.
-Took away my ability to search for others on Facebook, and took away my newsfeed.
-Stopped sharing my posts on 90% of my former friends news feeds.
-Made it near impossible for me to message anyone through Facebook.
-Deleted my entire history, including photos, albums, messages, posts etc.
Why I did this:
I am on facebook to help spread the word about the work that I do and the work that others do. In 2015 I will be sharing more Fix the World and QEG related work than ever before. Using a personal page for anything other than personal stuff puts you in violation of Facebooks rules and I could lose my Facebook presence altogether. So I had to change to a professional page in order to continue to post and promote our work.
Prior to this change my Facebook page was admittedly a HOT MESS. Info got buried and I wasn’t able to keep up. Now my new Facebook page, is a nice clean slate. And I don’t have a 5,000 friends limit.
Note to all my Facebook friends and followers, my posts will NOT show in your newsfeed unless you help by doing one of the following three things:
1) Hold your cursor over the “Liked” button at the top of my page and make sure “Show in News Feed” is checked in the drop down menu.
2) You can click on “New List” in that same drop down menu to create a list of your favorite pages and make sure you never miss an update from any of them, including mine.
3) Interact with my page. The more you “Like” and comment on pictures and status updates, the more you will see them in your Newsfeed!!
